The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), an international partnership of Europe, North America and East Asia in cooperation with the Republic of Chile, is the largest astronomical project in existence. ALMA will be a single telescope of revolutionary design, composed initially of 66 high precision antennas located on the Chajnantor plateau, 5000 meters altitude in northern Chile.
In the above image, I built an array of dishes that that I posed in various ways. I over did the modeling (as usual) and included the nuts and bolts on the dish arrays. I didnt know how close the camera would come to the dishes, but I wanted it to be able to come within a few meters with full detail. As always, I keep my maps above 4K to help ensure this.
Here is the wireframe view below, as seen from the same camera that I rendered from. Everything is composited and filtered in After Effects with some warming and contrasting filters.
